Superfood: The Powerful Cuke

What a mighty ally the cucumber is! They hydrate us, replenish us with vitamins and minerals while helping eliminate toxins. They’re loaded up with anti-oxidants, and have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits. What’s more, they aid in weight loss, digestion, reduce cholesterol, and help control blood pressure. Now that’s a power veggie.

Here’s the lowdown:

At about 95% water, cukes keep the body hydrated while helping to eliminate toxins. Just as importantly, they’ve got most all of the vitamins our bodies need in a single day. They lavishes you with vitamins A, B, and C, which boost immunity, give you energy, and keep you radiant. All those vitamins and minerals also make them a powerful enemy of muscle and joint pain.

And how about this? They actually fight cancers. They’re known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol. Those three lignans have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of several cancer types, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and prostate cancer.

Cukes aid in weight loss and digestion. Thanks to their low calorie count and high water content, they’re an ideal diet for people looking for weight loss. The high water content and dietary fiber in cucumbers are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, aiding digestion.

They help us manage stress. They contain multiple B vitamins (including vitamins B1, B5, and B7—a.k.a. biotin), all of which are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of everyday stress.

Cukes also contain silica, the wonder mineral that makes your hair and nails stronger and shinier.

Cucumbers make a great snack or add fresh taste and crunch when thrown in a salad.

Personally, I like to drink mine. Here’s why: When you drink fresh-made green juice, it’s almost like receiving an intravenous infusion of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes because they go straight into your system without having to be broken down. When your body has an abundance of the nutrients it needs, and your pH is optimally balanced, you’ll feel energized and your immune system will get a boost.

Cucumber juice is found in all of our green juices, so getting sipping!
