6 Tips for Radiant, Glowing Skin

By

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Like Kubler-Ross, we know that radiant, glowing skin is more than surface-deep. It’s about what we put into your body, what we do to reduce stress and find inner calm, and how we choose to spend our time. So here are six sustainable actions you can incorporate into your daily routine to achieve radiant skin. If you have more tips or ideas, please shoot me an email and let me know!

1. BREATHE.
In yoga, breathing exercises are called Pranayama, a Sanskrit word that translates to “mastery of the life force.” By mastering our breath, we’re able to slow down our nervous system, reduce stress, and find inner clarity and calm. This reduces breakouts and leads to glowing skin. One breathing exercise you can practice today is called Ocean Breath.

How to practice Ocean Breath:

  1. Find a quiet space and gently close your eyes while sitting or lying on your back with your arms resting by your side, palms facing up.
  2. Inhale through your nose for 5 seconds and exhale through your mouth for 5 seconds. As you exhale, gently gently constrict your throat, keeping your lips closed. Repeat for 10-20 minutes.

2. HYDRATE.
Drink, drink, drink! Cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices are packed full of healing and energizing nutrients and antioxidants that get absorbed into the bloodstream quickly and help the body flush out toxins, resulting in radiant skin. Healthful vitamins include A, C, K, E, B1, B2, B3, calcium, beta-carotene, phosphorous, iron, copper, magnesium, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Cold-pressed juices are never heated, so they maintain 100% of their nutrients. Try one of our cold-pressed juices today!

3. SLEEP.
Sleeping enables our bodies to go into cellular repair mode, growing new skin cells and replacing old cells. Sleep at least 7 to 9 hours each night. When you don’t sleep, your blood vessels dilate, resulting in dark circles and puffiness.

4. USE COCONUT OIL.
Virgin coconut oil extracted from the meat of the coconut won’t cause breakouts thanks to its antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Bonus: It also heals and repairs skin. Incorporate it into your daily routine by using it as a skin moisturizer (it’s a natural sunscreen) and makeup remover. A few of my favorite products include coconut body butter by Earth Tu Face, which you can find right here, and body oil to quench dry skin (which is even more crucial during winter months).

5. CREATE AN HERBAL SPRITZER.
Essential oils hydrate your skin to get it glowing. You can mix a few drops of essential oil (rose, bergamot, or sandalwood are great choices) with water in a spray bottle and gently spritz on your face when you need a mood lift or feel dry.

6. SPEND TIME DOING WHAT YOU LOVE.
Make time for the people and activities that make you the happiest. Doing what you love with the people you love will feed your soul. Laughing and smiling reduces stress and lead to glowing, radiant skin in the most natural way possible.
